Sizing your photo library
If you want to know how much storage your photo library uses, there are two possible questions you can ask.
How much local storage is used?
To find out, how much capacity your photo library uses on your device, open your system Settings –> General –> iPhone Storage
On a Mac use Settings –> General –> Storage. On a Mac you could also locate your photo library package (see Where are my photos stored?) and inspect its size in the Finder.
How much total storage is used?
If you are using iCloud, not the full amount of data may be on your device. The iCloud storage for photos can be looked up via Settings –> Account –> iCloud.
Local content not yet synced to iCloud may add. There is no precise way to size the local images volume which is not yet synced to iCloud.
Some Apps provide statistics to indicate the total data volume across both locations, e.g. my app Happy Photo Exporter.
